The Assassination of Jesse James...

Now if you can get passed the fact that Brad Pitt dies in the movie, it was great! For those of you reading this who think I just ruined the ending, well that's like ruining the ending of Titanic, so don't worry about it.

Anyhow, Brad Pitt (who played Jesse James) and Casey Affleck (who played the Coward Robert Ford) rocked it. Affleck really surprised me out of the entire cast. I already knew that Pitt and Sam Rockwell (who played Charley Ford) possessed the ability of delivering some intense characters, but Affleck really stood out in this film. He plays such a miserable selfish rat; the audience can't help but hate him.

A brief synopsis (for those who don't know the story, i.e. the same people who thought I ruined the ending): The bandits, Jesse James and his gang, become famous for bank robberies, kidnappings, and killings around Missouri. For years, James was an outlaw, unable to be captured by authorities. Two brothers, Robert and Charley Ford join James only to end up backstabbing him for reward money.

Long story short, Robert Ford becomes famous for shooting James in his own home, but he falls from grace and is labeled a coward after reenacting the murder for years in front of an audience. It's an incredible story, almost hard to believe it really happened. Rent it; great story and hot guys. Can you ask for more?

30 Days of Night...Not Too Shabby

So I had another blockbuster night and I rented the latest Josh Hartnett film, 30 Days of Night. I am one of those that loves horror movies (the good ones not just the latest genre of gore) and my favorite of all are vampire movies. Well, aside from the ending (which I will not disclose) I loved the movie.

30 days of Night takes place in Alaska on the eve of the last day of sunlight in the town Barrow. The vampires come to town to enjoy a 30 day daylight free harvest on the locals. Most of the town is gone for the season, and the few left behind aren't expecting anymore than just another hard winter. Unfortunately for them, a gang of incredibly creepy and apparently foreign, vampires come to town to take out every single person left behind.

Hartnett, of course, plays the hero in the film. The town gets taken out in a few days, and only a small group are left with Hartnett through the 30 days. The vampires spend the entire time hunting through every single nook and cranny of the town to assure that no one is left behind so no one can ever find out what happened there. Long story short, the group has to constantly move around and try to out smart the vamps; it's 113 minutes of tasteful slaughter and suspense. It wasn't overly gory, which left enough to the imagination that made it even better.

I really appreciate that the vampires weren't at all cheesy or even compassionate in anyway. The vamps were hardcore killing machines with one goal; to feed, and that was cool. I recommend it for anyone who's tired of the Saw and Hostel movies.

Patrick Swayze...

I can't have a blog about movies, without mentioning the great actors who play the biggest part in making them memorable. In case some of you didn't know, Patrick Swayze's rep confirmed this week that the actor was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I was truly saddened to hear this news; it almost brought me to tears. Although I don't personally know Swayze, I have fallen in love with the characters he has brought to the screen.

I'm sure we've all seen Ghost and Dirty Dancing"; no one can deny that Swayze has left his mark on the movie industry. The diagnosis comes as such a shock because pancreatic cancer has a 94% mortality rate, I only hope Swayze can defy those odds.
The year has just begun, and already we've lost two young talents: Brad Renfro and Heath Ledger. Another loss would just be devistating. My prayers are with the Swayze family.

In Response to Mayte...

On my last post, Mayte mentioned The Bucket List, well I did love that movie actually. I think my only complaint was the way the film was advertised. I mean here's the scenario that was presented, Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman are these two great opposite characters who are about to "kick the bucket" so they go on crazy adventures to make the best out of life. In reality, the movie was so much deeper than that. The film opens with an introduction to the lives of the two characters, followed very quickly by both characters being diagnosed with cancer.

The first half of the movie mainly consists of their days in the hospital while going through chemo and surgery. I found the scenes to be too graphic to be at all humorous. I mean they weren't supposed to be funny which is why the movie should not have been advertised as a knee slapper. There were, of course, moments of laughter; moments that were even hilarious. But the real point of the movie was to be true to life. There is tragedy and light at the end of the suffering. The movie was really beautiful, but I don't recommend it if it's a comedy you're looking for.

Welcome! Who Wants a Shave?

Welcome all to my movies blog! Here, I will provide my opinion of the latest movies and my recommendation on what to watch.

The last movie I saw recently that actually counted was Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. I thought this movie was amazing. Johnny Depp and Tim Burton delivered greatness once again. I know most people had mixed feelings about the film because of the whole musical thing, but get over it. Don't be turned off because it's a musical, there's no frolicking and corny love songs in this masterpiece. This movie is both disturbing and beautiful. Helen Bonham Carter and Sasha Baron Cohen provide a nice touch of comic relief amidst the gore and vengeance that consumes Depp's character.

Bottom line, the movie was amazing, I even saw it twice in theaters. Trust me (guys especially) it's not a typical musical, your friends won't rag on you for catching this one.
